a wonderful thanksgiving {and how our turkey was run over!}

I can't believe Thanksgiving was almost a week ago! I figured I'd better get my turkey day recap up before December 1st!

I had so much fun this Thanksgiving. Even though it was just a small gathering it was perfect.

Scott and I started out the day with a 5 mile {round trip} run to the beach.

If you follow my personal fb page you know we had a bit of an issue with the turkey.

Here are the fb posts:

"Our turkey was run over...I'm not joking, I can't make this up...fact: our uncooked turkey was run over by a two door Honda civic"

"How our turkey was run over: rik was loading it in the Honda to bring it to our house. He didn't have the keys so he set it on the ground. They finished loading, got in the car and backed up. As they backed up they heard a weird noise. Seconds later Liz saw our turkey laying in the drive way. Luckily it was not run over by the tire and is still whole and able to be cooked. This is the tale of how Rik almost ruined our thanksgiving ;)"

It cracks me up still. When Rik told me I'm pretty sure my chin hit the floor, my face turned green and I just stood there in shock.

breakfast was a pumpkin pie milk shake, yum!

Group picture in the back yard.

Liz and I made a pitcher of sangria. It was very mild as we did not want to be wasted trying to cook thanksgiving dinner!

Liz and I enjoying our sangria

we made an appetizer spread at about 2pm so we all wouldn't be starving at 6pm.

we had salami, smoked gouda cheese, olive oil rosemary asiago cheese, and pimento spread.

our table setting

the boys taking a shot of lemonchello

the mood was a bit romantic, hehe

moistest turkey ever! {maybe we will have to run over the turkey every year!}

Liz and I in front of all the yummy food we made

Cooking an entire Thanksgiving meal is exhausting! I can't imagine doing it all by myself. Liz and I even created a schedule so we wouldn't forget anything or end up eating at 11pm!

We had three desserts {there were only 4 of us!}

I sampled all three!

Thanksgiving 2011 {being thankful}

Source: via Kendra on Pinterest

This month got a bit crazy and I didn't get to do a weekly post of thankful on paper. So I am going to list the many things I am thankful for this year:
God has blessed us with so much this year:

We moved into a bigger house closer to our friends.

 Scott advanced to First Class and then was selected for Officer Candidate School and will be commissioned as a Naval Officer next year!

We were awarded the Navy Family of the Year award and went to Washington DC.

 I was able to quit my job this year and pursue a lot of my passions and dreams full time.

I was able to do a lot of traveling with friends and to see family: Chicago, Minnesota, Washington DC and Washington State.

There are many times when I get frustrated with the direction of our life and things not going according to my plan. I need to remind myself daily to be thankful for all of the amazing things we have and to know that everything happens in Gods time, not mine.

I am so thankful for a wonderful husband. I can't say it enough, he is the hardest working man I know. He spent the beginning of 2011, finishing up his bachelors degree, flying to Norfolk, VA every 4 weeks for a week of training for work, studied for a first class exam and completed his package for OCS. It is so amazing to say that everything he worked on at the beginning of the year was worth it. It is true, you get what you work for.  He is so supportive of my dreams and puts up with my crazy bipolar nutty personality, that in itself is a full time job!

I am so thankful for my family, they have all migrated to different places in the US but I always know they are there for us. I so looking forwarding to seeing everyone together in February for Colt's 1st birthday!

The last 4 months have been beyond words. My relationship with God is growing like crazy. I am so grateful to the women who started the bible study at our base chapel. I wake up every day reminding myself that I need to give everything to God and when I do I can see that he takes care of me.

I thankful for the amazing women I have met through blogging and etsy. It is so amazing to meet women who encourage, support and inspire me every day. They truly are a blessing!

Card Gnome is thanking our military this holiday season & you can too!

I love the holidays.

Everyone is in the giving mood. People are excited to give instead of just receive, it really is a special time of year!

While most people look forward to the holidays because it is the time of year they get to see family and be around the ones they love, many military families will spend it away from their loved one{s}.

This holiday season, Card Gnome would like to thank our military for their service and sacrifice.

They have created a program called "Cards and Heroes"

Card Gnome has launched a program to give 10,000 FREE cards to any military member.

For active military that would like to participate: Simply sign up with your military email address, select any card, include your personal message and Card Gnome will take care of the payment and shipping. The first 10,000 cards sent by military members in this manner are free.

Sample cards

How cool is that?!

And for those of you who are not active members of the military, Card Gnome has rallied around the American Red Cross “Holiday Mail for Heroes” program, allowing individuals to send a holiday greeting to a member of the military.

Each participant will select a card, include a personal message and hit “Send to a Hero” at checkout and Card Gnome will relay the greeting to the American Red Cross who will then distribute to it to the military member. The cost is only $4.99 {the equivalent to a trip to Starbucks}

You can even pick the date you'd like to have the card mailed.

This is a wonderful way to send a holiday card to say thank you to our men and women in uniform serving our country. Let them know they are in your thoughts and prayers this holiday season.

FaLaLaLaLa Christmas decorations part 1

It is no shocker that I LOVE Christmas.

It is my favorite time of year, hands down!

I love to decorate, I love doing any type of Christmas related activity.

Since Thanksgiving is this week I am getting preparing myself for the Christmas fun to begin on Friday when we head out for BLACK FRIDAY!

Source: via Jenelle on Pinterest

These yummy pretzel sticks need to be in my belly asap! I am hoping to make these this weekend.

How cute is this Christmas Decoration?!?
It would be fun to do the number of family members you have.

This is such a fun "wreath" totally different from the norm.
I think it would be an fun way to decorate the inside doors as well. {or decorate each child's room door and have their name on it as well}

This might be my favorite wreath ever! I love the colors, how big it is and how fun it is.
It just screams Christmas!

This might be the yummiest wreath ever!
Such a fun and cute idea.

I love me some printables. These Christmas rules are perfect! I will be printing this this weekend and putting it for all to see.
Another adorable printable that will be going up in my house this weekend!
Are you getting ready to decorate for Christmas? or have you already started??
