style remix: {1 skirt, 4 looks}

Many of my readers and friends have asked me how I come up with my outfits. I thought it would be fun to start a series where I show you how to style an item 4 different ways.

When I was working I always picked out my outfit the night before. This meant tons of clothes being tried on each night to find the perfect look. I used to have a very matchy matchy, simple look. While changing into different outfits I started noticing the things I wasn't pairing together actually looked good together. A little funky and fun.

I love mixing colors and prints. I swear I can make any color a neutral and pair it with almost anything. I think the biggest thing to remember is to be confident. If you feel good you will look good. Sometimes I have an idea of the perfect outfit in my head and then I put it on and I hate it because I don't feel like I look good.  You can rock anything if feel good about it!

If you are unsure of how to pair things in your closet try it on with everything! If you have a skirt you tend to only pair with a solid color top branch out. Put on the skirt and try on all the tops you own and see what you like. It may be a bit time consuming but if you end up finding 3 tops you never would have paired with it you just expanded your wardrobe.

My first style remix is this skirt I bought at Forever21 last spring.

outfit1:

necklace: rellasbellas/ earrings & bracelets: forever21/ top: forever21/ sweater: banana republic outlet/ tights: target. boots: nine west

I wore this exact outfit a few weeks ago to bible study and running errands. It is perfect for a bit cooler weather. {add a denim jacket and scarf and you are set for cooler weather.} I pulled colors from the skirt for the top and tights. They don't have to be the exact same color, just similar. Since I had such a bold color in my tights I decided to have my sweater and top match. Also, since I was wearing the tights with boots you only see a bit of the bright tights, thus they don't over power the outfit.

outfit: 2

hat: nordstrom/ necklace: rellasbellas/ earrings & bracelets: forever21/ top: forever21/ sandals: target

I love mixing stripes with a pattern. It is probably one of the simplest ways to add a bit of pizazz to an outfit. This would still be cute with a simple white or coral top, but the stripes add an extra bit of fun.  I could have very easily paired my orange sandals with this outfit, but the turquoise is a bit unexpected. This would be a perfect outfit to wear out for a day of fun with the hubby or girlfriends.

outfit: 3

necklace: rellasbellas/ earrings & bracelets: forever21/ top: banana republic/ wedges: old navy

This outfit is a bit dressier than the rest. It would be perfect for a fun date night with the hubby. As much as I love color these wedges totally make my legs look longer. Paired with this shorter skirt and I look like I am 6 feet tall! Another necklace option would be a simple gold necklace, but I like to be bold.

outfit: 4

necklace, bracelets & earrings: forever21/ sweater: old navy/ top: forever21/ flats: nine west

This outfit really works for anything, running errands, girls day or even to church. Since I used a lot of turquoise in the top of the outfit I like the pop of orange in the flats.

I used the same bracelets in all the outfits and the same earrings in all but one. I did this to show you that this skirt along with these tops would also be perfect to pack for a trip/vacation. Add a pair of trouser jeans, colored skinnies and another skirt and you literally have 16 plus outfit options.

What do you think? Are you ready to step a bit out of your comfort zone when it comes to you closet?

If you have any questions I'd love to help you out, ask away!

Ok, first off, I love these outfits you made, but I would have never put a stripe with a print skirt. I just would never have thought I could do that. I adore it. Great job. Now I'm going to run to my closet and see what I can do with my printed skirts...hopefully I'll find a mix other than a solid t-shirt.

Great outfits!! Perfect for Spring. I should try and do this with some of my favorite skirts since I tend to get stuck wearing the same outfits. Thanks for the inspiration!
